Kailashnath Mahadev Statue is the world's tallest Shiva statue. It is second tallest Hindu deity after Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue in Bali, Indonesia. It is situated in Sanga, on the border of the Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchwok districts in Nepal, about 20 km from Kathmandu. The statue is 143 feet (43.5 m) in height was made using copper, zinc, concrete, and steel. Its foundations are 100 feet deep to sustain earthquake or landslide. Sanga is only 5 km from Banepa.
Bhaktapur is an old town that suffered greatly from the earthquake of 2015. Extensive painstaking repairs have been done to the old buildings, and the area is mostly renovated. There is much to see, and many cafes and restaurants to eat and relax. Craftsmen are busy doing carpentry and art, and the workshops and paintings and souvenirs are plentiful. Stay overnight in one of the many hotels. There is an entrance fee to Bhaktapur, and the fee helps towards its reparation.
Banepa is a busy municipality and historical town in Kathmandu valley situated at about 4,800 ft (1,500 m) above sea level in central Nepal which is at about 25 kilometres (16 mi) east from Kathmandu. It has a population of over 60,000. One of the main attractions of Banepa is the temple of Chandeshwori, located approximately 1 km (0.62 mi) northeast of the town along the Rudramati River. The Dhaneshwor Temple is 1 km south of the town. It is also near the Sanga statue of Shiva (the tallest in the world)and its proximity to the Dhulikel hotels with their wonderful views of mountain ranges. Banepa is also known for its eight different temples of Lord Ganesh, Narayanthan (the temple of Lord Narayan), Bhimshenthan (the temple of Lord Bhimshen) and eight different ponds. It is also a good stopping place if you want to visit ancient Panauti or the villages in the valley of Rabi Opi.
This temple is one km south of Banepa, and is devoted to Lord Shiva, and a collection of artifacts including many trishuls and bells. The carved wooden pillars around the outside have recently been renewed.
Panauti was a commercial town in medieval time, but now it is calmer. With a very well preserved backwater and a fascinating place to explore with interesting temples and impressive Rana mansions which have been restored. There are 3 rivers including Brahmayani, Roshi & Punyabati. This town was derived from the holy river of Punyabati. Here is metal works and agriculture with beautiful rice terrace, where we can see agriculture base culture & lifestyle. Panauti local people celebrate several festival and fairs here. There are stupas , stone art and temples around with beautiful woodcarvings. Panauti offers the beautiful Hindu Temple i.e. Indreshwor Mahadev (12-13 centuries) which has single plinth base, pagoda type with 03 storied, 03 main gates & 06 tundals. The temple dedicated Shiva the god of destruction and creation.
If you are in Panauti, then take a short walk to Khopasi. It has a nice resevoir, and firther along a suspension bridge which leads to a pleasant walk through the forest. The hydro power station down in the valley is open to visitors, and aften a party of schoolchildren have an educational trip there.
Dhulikhel Municipality is a major part of the Kathmandu Valley Cultural Trekking Trail. This five-day trail provides a short trek with himalayas in the background and passes showcases a number of cultural highlights and rich biodiversity. Visits to hill stations like Chisapani, Nagarkot along with Dhulikhel will be less challenging than going to himalayas routes but with equal thrill and rewards. Dhulikhel municipality is one of the starting or the middle points for hiking routes. These include walks to Panauti, Kavre village, Opi village as well as to Hazaar Sindhi all of which take as long as a half day. A longer walking route includes trail to Nagarkot and Namobuddha. The Municipality also forms one of the points for Mountain Biking with challenging terrains as well as the site of people with rich ethnic culture and the scenery of mountain ranges along the way. Routes include Dhulikhel-Panauti, Dhulikhel-Khopasi, Dhulikhel-Palanchowk-Dhulikhel, Dhulikhel-Namobuddha-Dhulikhel.
